CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SAN BERNARDINO : Driver of Stolen Car Slain by Deputy

A San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a Fontana woman as he clung to the side of a stolen BMW she was driving, deputies said. The unidentified deputy had walked over to the car during a routine traffic stop just north of San Bernardino when the woman, whose name was withheld, suddenly accelerated. He fired as he held on to the door. Following the shooting, the deputy was hospitalized with abrasions, officials said. A man accompanying the dead woman was not wounded but was arrested on outstanding warrants, deputies said.
