California IN BRIEF : LA MESA : 6 Operation Rescue Picketers Arrested
Six members of Operation Rescue were arrested Saturday in La Mesa, cited for trespassing at a health clinic that performs abortions. The arrests occurred at one of several anti-abortion demonstrations held throughout Southern California. In Los Angeles, about 60 Operation Rescue pickets were met outside a Sunset Boulevard health clinic by about 40 pro-choice demonstrators. Los Angeles police said both demonstrators were peaceful. Saturday’s picketing was held in conjunction with Operation Rescue’s conference this weekend in Washington, said Sharon Messiak, spokeswoman for the anti-abortion group.
