Hooker Corp. to Shut Altman Stores: L. J. Hooker Co., the hard-pressed owner of the B. Altman & Co. chain of department stores now in bankruptcy protection, said it will shut almost all the stores after failing to find a buyer. Hooker, a subsidiary of Hooker Corp. of Australia, said while there were interested parties, none had adequate financing. Altman stores are known for a traditional air that has not kept pace with consumer tastes.
