La Verne : La Verne OKs General Plan

Share

The La Verne City Council voted 3 to 2 Monday night to approve a new General Plan, the city’s first in 15 years.

The plan, which has been 4 1/2 years in the making, further restricts residential development. It also attempts to limit population growth to 4,000 to 6,000 people over the next 20 years, which would bring the city’s population to about 35,000.

The General Plan is likely to meet legal challenges from developers, according to Bradford Francke, a representative of Lewis Homes. The developer is suing the city for rejecting a Lewis Homes project in February under the La Verne Heights development plan.

The two dissenting councilmen, Craig Walters and Patrick Gatti, wanted to place a moratorium on development pending outcome of the suit.

But a moratorium would stop construction of all developments in La Verne, which the three other councilmen said was unacceptable.
