SECOND CHANCE, a charity for the homeless, was the beneficiary of $60,000 raised at the Great American Celebrity Road Rally on Oct.10-12. Rick Heart, despite getting lost on the 125-mile trek from Los Angeles to Palm Springs on Oct. 11, came up a winner. Some of the racers participating were Norm Crosby, Chuck Connors, Dick Van Patten and son James, Dr. Joyce Brothers and Charlie Callas. Ed McMahon and Jackie Cooper were rally hosts.

* The Della Robbia Guild of Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles held its fourth fashion show and luncheon Oct. 21, at the home of Monique and Bill Back. Adrienne Vittadini designs were featured. Net proceeds, $10,000, will benefit the hospital’s Rehabilitation Center that provides care for children with acute and chronic physical disabilities. Diana Rosen and Christine Oliver were event co-chairs.

* The National Multiple Sclerosis Society honored Pat Riley, coach of the L.A. Lakers, at its 1989 Dinner of Champions on Oct. 25 at the Century Plaza. More than $225,000 was raised and $100,000 will be used for respite care and programs here in Southern California. David R. Carpenter, CEO and chairman of Transamerica Occidental chaired the event.

* The Young Musicians Foundation’s annual gala was held Nov. 3 at the Beverly Hilton, hosted by Carl Reiner with a special appearance by Al Jarreau. Composers/conductors Henry Mancini, David Rose, Georges Delerue and Lalo Schifrin also performed, as well as young musician Leila Josefowicz. Proceeds of $180,600 will benefit the Debut Orchestra Continuance Fund. Donna Schifrin was gala chairman. Margot Thomas and Janis Gardner were co-chairs.

* The Inter-Community Medical Center Foundation in Covina held its sixth foundation dinner-dance Nov. 4 at the Pasadena Hilton. A silent auction helped to increase net proceeds to $80,000 to benefit the Hospice of the East San Gabriel Valley and Inter-Community Medical Center Foundation. Dick Alexander was event chairman.

* The third Kodak and PCC Golf Tournament Nov. 6, held at the North Ranch Country Club in Westlake Village, hosted more than 200 golfers and netted more than $50,000. Permanent Charities Committee raises funds to support more than 300 health and services organizations in the Greater Los Angeles area.
