NATION : Shuttle Moved to Renovated Pad

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — The space shuttle Columbia was transported to a refurbished launch pad today for a Christmastime mission to deploy one satellite and retrieve another the size of a bus before it falls to Earth.
The shuttle’s five astronauts rode along part of the way on the giant tracked vehicle that moved Columbia to pad 39A on a six-hour, 4.2-mile trip from an assembly building.
