WORLD IN BRIEF : CAMBODIA : Guerrillas Driven From Key Town

Cambodian troops, using Soviet-made tanks and artillery barrages, drove U.S.-backed resistance forces from the key town of Svay Chek, in western Cambodia near the Thai border, a guerrilla leader said. Lt. Gen. Pan Tai, deputy chief of staff of the Khmer People’s National Liberation Army, said his troops suffered heavy casualties. But he said guerrilla forces held much of the area around the town.
