Mike Penner, a Times staff writer since 1983, has been named Orange County Edition sports columnist. Penner, a resident of Anaheim for 18 years and a Western High School graduate, holds a degree from Cal State Fullerton. Before joining The Times, he worked for the Anaheim Bulletin for six years, the last three as its sports editor. He has covered the Angels the past four seasons. Prior to that, he covered tennis, UC Irvine basketball and high school athletics. His column will regularly appear Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
