The lead boats in the fifth Whitbread Round the World Race have reached Fremantle, Australia, to complete the second leg of sailing’s premier long-distance event.

Peter Blake’s ketch Steinlager II of New Zealand, first to Punta del Este, Uruguay, in the first leg from England last month, remained in the lead by covering the 7,650-nautical mile leg to Fremantle in 27 days, 5 hours, 34 minutes, 44 seconds.
