The Police Department will soon have an improved computer system that will provide quicker access to police records and reports.
The City Council voted Tuesday night to spend $143,000 to upgrade the Police Department’s computer system purchased in 1986. The upgrade will increase the speed at which files are retrieved, decrease processing time and add memory space. The department also will gain a high-speed laser printer.
The city is buying the computer system from FileNet Corp. of Costa Mesa, which installed the department’s original system.
