NATION IN BRIEF : ARIZONA : Navajo Chairman Pleads Innocent
Suspended Navajo Chairman Peter MacDonald pleaded innocent to 107 criminal counts filed against him by special tribal prosecutors. But his son, Peter (Rocky) MacDonald Jr., who also was to have been arraigned in tribal court in Window Rock, Ariz., failed to appear and a prosecutor said he will seek a bench warrant for his arrest. Judge Robert Yazzie of the tribe’s Window Rock District Court released the elder MacDonald on his own recognizance. The charges against him include conspiracy, bribery, fraud, extortion and election-law violations.
