F. Gilman Spencer, former editor of the New York Daily News, has been named editor-in-chief of the Denver Post. The 63-year-old Pulitzer Prize winner replaces Robert W. Ritter, executive editor, who resigned. Spencer resigned from the Daily News in September after five years. He said he left partly because the newspaper was about to enter difficult labor negotiations, and he had to make a commitment either to stay or leave. Spencer also was editor of the Philadelphia Daily News for nine years. He won his Pulitzer Prize for editorial writing in 1974 while at The Trentonian in Trenton, N.J. Chuck Green, editor of the Post, will become editorial page editor. Carl Miller, current editorial page editor, will be reassigned to another senior management position.
