CALCUTTA — Surgeons implanted a pacemaker in Mother Teresa today, and hospital officials said the Nobel laureate’s condition had improved.
The 79-year-old Roman Catholic nun who won the 1979 Nobel Peace Prize suffered a heart attack in September. She was admitted Wednesday to a hospital known as the Woodlands Nursing Home with high blood pressure and dizziness.
“Mother had a permanent pacemaker implanted today,” a hospital statement on her health said today. “She withstood the procedure very well and is now resting comfortably.”
