Juvenile Judge Reassigned

Share

I have just read that Superior Court Judge Roosevelt Dorn (Nov. 20) was transferred away from Juvenile Court which has hit me hard in my heart. I can’t believe that they have the nerve to take him from Juvenile Court. I really think that this is a big mistake for the community because Judge Dorn is a very special man.

My story is one of many that have passed through his court. Judge Dorn sent me to camp for girls. I never had a father, no one to put a foot down, lay down rules for me. When I first got locked up, I was very bitter and angry towards him. After I did about five months out of my six-month sentence, I realized that this man really did care about young people, and he really did care about what happened after we left those camps or Juvenile Hall.

I worked so very hard to prove to Judge Dorn (who turned into my father figure those months) that I had pride in myself and that I realized my mistakes. I doubt that he would remember my name, but I know that he changed my life, the way I was living, and my attitude towards life. When I went back to court April 18 to show him the good job I did and to thank him for giving me a time out, he was on vacation. I never got the chance to express my feelings for him or for what he did for me and others.

I think transferring Judge Dorn out of Juvenile Court is wrong. I feel that the parents and the kids should have a vote in this. I could care less about the attorneys.

Bring Judge Dorn back to Juvenile Court where he belongs!
