A hunter who killed a 14-year-old boy he mistook for a deer has been charged with a felony under a new Georgia law aimed at tightening restrictions on hunters.

Felton Johnson, 55, turned himself in Thursday and was booked for the slaying of Gavin Gingerich, a neighbor, in woods behind their homes Wednesday.

Johnson, a retired Fulton County firefighter, was charged with misuse of a firearm while hunting.
