NATION : U.S. Won’t Protest Detention

WASHINGTON —
The Pentagon said today it will not protest last week’s Soviet detention of two American soldiers in East Germany and disclosed each superpower has detained an equal number of military personnel on its side of divided Germany this year.
“It’s my sense from talking to our people at U.S. Army-Europe that no one senses that they were unreasonably detained,” Defense Department spokesman Pete Williams said.
