Downtown Los Angeles office workers contributed a record $60,000 for the homeless, organizers of Downtown Dollar Days have announced. Now in its third year, the operation relies on small contributions from individuals, rather than large corporate gifts.

Spokeswoman Karen Diehl said the money will be divided equally among five organizations that provide services to the homeless--the Chrysalis Center, Downtown Women’s Center, Los Angeles Men’s Place, Las Familias del Pueblo, and the Ninth Street School Latch-Key and Summer Day Camp Program.
