STAGE REVIEW : ‘It’s Christmas’

Share

“It’s Christmas! It’s Christmas! It’s Christmas! It’s Christmas!,” a late-night offering at Theatre/Theater, is a dismal private joke that is likely to tickle only those members of the audience who know the actors.

Set in 1973 (that date must be part of the joke), it’s an extended skit (complete with intermission, though the show is only an hour long) about a group of teens who try to save a malt shop from imminent doom by staging a Christmas pageant. An oedipal subplot takes over the last part of this semi-incoherent mishmash.

The style is low camp. The garish costumes and director Leo Geter’s program note are the most amusing features of the production.
