ABORTION POLITICS: In the wake of a surprise victory by a pro-choice candidate in San Diego, the abortion spotlight may soon shift to the Republican primary battle for lieutenant governor. . . . Marian Bergeson (R-Newport Beach) and John Seymour (R-Anaheim), two popular Orange County state senators, agree on most issues but she opposes abortion and he recently switched to a pro-choice position. . . . “That was a bold move in itself,” says county GOP official Greg Haskin. “It could turn out to pay off very well for him or it could backfire.” Local Republicans aren’t sure how the issue will play, he said, but some anti-abortion supporters are now wondering if there isn’t some “middle ground.”
