Despite autopsy findings Friday that a man found dead in his apartment died of heart failure, the case is being treated as a homicide.

Police Sgt. Art Romo said the body of Juan G. Aguilar-Crevoisier was found by a friend who had planned on visiting the 50-year-old bookkeeper in the apartment complex in the 1400 block of North Glassell Street.

Romo said the man died of heart failure after a struggle during which he was struck on the side of the head. The body was discovered about 9:30 p.m. Thursday; Romo said investigators believe the victim died at least 16 hours earlier.

“The door was ajar, so (the friend) went in. He saw the . . . body lying on the bed.”

Further checks revealed that a videocassette recorder, a television and the victim’s 1981 white Pontiac Phoenix were missing.

Romo said anyone with information on the car, which bears the California license plate 1DEZ196, should call the Orange Police Department at (714) 532-0221.
