LA HABRA : Police Team Up to Catch Drunk Drivers

Share

People leaving Christmas parties in the North County soon will have an extra reason not to get behind the wheel if they have been drinking.

Police departments in Buena Park, Fullerton, La Habra, Brea and Placentia will be out in force the night of 22 in a first-ever coordinated crackdown on drunk drivers.

The cooperative police patrols will help prevent drunks from “slipping through the cracks,” Fullerton police Lt. Bud Lathrop said. “It’s something that has to be done. We don’t live in a vacuum. It has to be a team effort,” Lathrop said.

Each department will have extra traffic officers on the streets that night searching for drunk drivers.

Police will distribute bright yellow flyers at bars, restaurants and shopping centers throughout the area informing people of the crackdown--and an easy solution: A taxi company will give a free ride home to those who have been drinking, and a towing service will bring their cars home.
