Billy Martin, former New York Yankee manager, narrowly escaped a bullet from a derringer fired accidentally in a bar.

The bullet struck above the bar where Martin, 61, was sitting at Larry Bird’s Boston Connection Hotel in Terre Haute, Ind., Saturday. It missed Martin by about two feet.

Police said the two-shot pistol in a woman’s purse fired when another patron knocked the purse off a table and onto the floor.
