The United States International University subsidiary holding controlling interest in television station KUSI has been sued by the minority shareholder, who claims his television equipment is being used illegally.

The suit, filed this week by Mike McKinnon, seeks $7 million damages against University Television Inc. unless the equipment is returned.

Ken McLennan, a spokesman for USIU president William Rust, declined Thursday to comment on the suit, saying school officials had not yet seen a copy of it.

The university, through its subsidiary, owns a 74% share of the station. McKinnon owns the remaining 26%.

McKinnon said Thursday that the station’s lease on his equipment expired last month and was not renewed.
