From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Fountains will run dry and golf courses may turn brown in South Florida under water restrictions adopted in response to a 14-month drought that is the worst in 27 years. About 4 million people from the Florida Keys to Palm Beach must cut their water use 15% because the water storage has dipped below the previous record low, set in 1962. The district’s governing board in West Palm Beach unanimously approved the mandatory restrictions starting Monday for the most populous four counties in the 10-county district. Among other restrictions, lawn watering and home car washing will be allowed only from 4 a.m. to 8 a.m. three days a week.
