The number of county residents killed in alcohol-related traffic accidents dropped 19% between 1987 and 1988. The 134 fatalities last year was by far the lowest number during any of the last five years and the lowest for the preceding decade except for the 121 recorded in 1982.

Anaheim was by far the deadliest city, with twice as many alcohol-related deaths as Santa Ana (which had the second highest total). Anaheim’s total of killed and injured, however, was 63% lower than Santa Ana, which had the highest combined total of killed and injured. Santa Ana’s combined 898 killed and injured accounted for 19% of the total for cities’ streets.
