McMartin Jury Starts 2-Week Vacation
The jury in the long-running McMartin Pre-School child molestation trial began a two-week vacation Friday after failing to reach verdicts on 39 of the 65 counts against Ray Buckey, 31, and his mother, Peggy McMartin Buckey, 63.
The jury had turned in 24 sealed verdicts Thursday morning. Previously, verdicts on only two counts had been reached in almost six weeks of deliberations. Thursday’s barrage of decisions led Los Angeles Superior Court Judge William Pounders to surmise that the panel was winding up its work. Deliberations resume Jan. 2.
