A member of The Gap Band, a rhythm and blues group, was arrested along with 10 other people Friday in an early morning raid on a cocaine rock house in Compton, police said.
Robert Wilson, 32, was arrested on suspicion of being present in a location where drugs were sold, Lt. Al Smith said. The 10 others were booked on various drug charges, including frequenting a place where drugs are sold and possessing or selling rock cocaine.
Wilson and his brothers, Ronnie and Charlie, initially formed The Gap Band as a top 40 group called New Experience. They changed the band’s name in 1977 and gained a national following.
Their breakthrough came with the 1980 release of the album Gap Band III, which turned to platinum with chart-busters such as “Burn Rubber on Me” and “Yearning for Your Love.”
