President Bush Criticized on China
While President Bush’s pocket veto of a bill that would have allowed Chinese students in the U.S. to remain here after their visas expire (HR 2712) shocks everybody, his administrative measures, claiming to do the same thing as this bill, offer little comfort.
First of all, one has to see what concrete steps are taken rather than just listening to the President’s promise to believe that his measures will have the same effect as the bill.
There is very little guarantee that he would not someday revoke these measures, or simply administratively reduce their effect to a minimum, under pressure from the Chinese government. GARY LIU
