GARDEN GROVE : Major Project OKd for Heart of City

An agreement authorizing a major downtown redevelopment project has won approval from the City Council.

The council voted 4 to 1 this week for an agreement with IDM Corp. to build an office-commercial project in the heart of the city at the northwest corner of Euclid Street and Garden Grove Boulevard.

“I think this project is long overdue,” Councilman J. Tilman Williams said. But Councilman Robert F. Dinsen, who cast the sole dissenting vote, said he thinks that the land is being sold to the developer too cheaply at $1.8 million.

“I want to see the land developed, too, but it seems ridiculous to sell it for one-third of its value,” he said.

The 8.56-acre site has been vacant for nearly a decade and has been the subject of several development plans.

IDM’s plan calls for a five-story office building to match the one across the street on the east side of Euclid. Also part of the project are several single-story office and commercial buildings and a restaurant.
