Swimmer Lynne Cox, 33, of Los Alamitos will leave Sunday for South America to swim the Beagle Channel from Argentina to Chile, where the water temperature is between 38 and 45 degrees, with winds of 25 to 30 knots.
Cox, who swam the Bering Strait from U.S. to Soviet territory in 1987 and a part of Lake Baikal in Siberia last year, said: “I think this is going to be the most difficult yet.”
Cox will start the swim--estimated to be from 7 to 15 miles--from Usuia, Argentina, the southernmost city in the world.
