American fugitive Joseph Shepherd was deported to the United States on Saturday, where he could face murder charges.

Shepherd was taken by armed escort from this city in Ontario and handed to authorities in Detroit.

The accused murderer was ordered deported Nov. 24, but the Ontario Court of Appeal gave his lawyer, Fletcher Dawson, until Dec. 15 to appeal the deportation to the Supreme Court of Canada.

The high court refused an appeal last week.

Shepherd, 36, is wanted for the rape and slaying of two teen-age girls near his hometown of Tellico Plains, Tenn.

He was arrested in London this year after living for several years under an assumed name.
