2 Landlords Convicted Over Slum Conditions

Owners of two adjacent buildings the Los Angeles city attorney has called a “cluster of blight” were convicted and sentenced Tuesday for slum conditions on their properties.

Guillermo H. Gonzalez, 44, of Cypress Park, owner of a 30-unit former hotel at 2612 Idell St., was sentenced to two months of house arrest in his own building, beginning Jan. 11. Gonzalez pleaded no contest to criminal charges of violating health, building and safety codes including cockroach infestation, holes in walls and ceilings and no heat.

Tim Preis, 39, of Northridge, owner of another former hotel at 2616 Idell St., was found guilty of multiple code violations at his building and another at 2040 S. San Pedro St. He will be sentenced Jan. 10.
