Share

An anti-drug abuse organization will sponsor a chaperoned, alcohol-free New Year’s Eve party for Orange County junior high school students.

Californians Against Drugs is organizing the event, which will be held from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. at a teen-oriented nightclub in Anaheim. The party is open to students in the seventh, eighth and ninth grades.

“For the age group we’ve chosen, there’s a real void there for recreation on New Year’s Eve,” said Stan Wind horn, director of Californians Against Drugs. “We want to give these kids something else to do on a night when a lot of kids are going to parties where there’s traditionally drug abuse.”

Among the biggest attractions of the evening, Windhorn said, will be a “lip-sync” contest and a photo session conducted by a Beverly Hills modeling agency. The contest will be emceed by Alan Fawcett, host of the syndicated television program “Puttin’ on the Hits.”

School districts in Irvine, Orange, Tustin, Santa Ana and Anaheim are advertising the party on their campuses, Windhorn said. Also helping to organize the event is CASA, a volunteer group from the Orange Unified School District that deals with teen-age “at-risk” issues such as drug and alcohol abuse, teen pregnancy and gang activity.

The party will be held at Kaleidoscope, 1490 S. Anaheim Blvd. Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. The admission price includes pizza, soft drinks, dancing, carnival games, a fortune teller, a magician, noisemakers and a commemorative T-shirt, Windhorn said. For information, call 714-557-6933.
