Padres Sign Ex-Hoover Player

The Padres signed third baseman Eddie Williams, a 1983 Hoover High School graduate, to a minor league contract Thursday. Williams, 25, was a six-year minor league free agent who last played in the Chicago White Sox organization.

Williams batted .274 with three home runs and 10 RBIs in 66 games for the White Sox last season and .246 with one homer and 13 RBIs in 35 games for their triple-A team in Vancouver.
