A Gem of a Friend

Christmas came early for Jane Seymour in the form of $1 million in rubies and diamonds. The actress didn’t have a gem to wear

when she passed through Los Angeles recently, having left her own jewelry at home. But she happened to be camped out at the Beverly Hills Hotel, which also houses Harry Winston’s jewelry boutique. Count Enrico Carimati di Carimate, West Coast vice president of the company, offered to lend Seymour the dazzling gems she wore for the cover shot of this month’s Palm Springs Life magazine. And that is how Seymour survived the L.A. party scene in style.

A Stitch in Time

Santa’s elves are hard at work in the window display of I. Magnin: They’re stitching together Christian Dior gowns. The Beverly Hills store’s windows showcase elves and Gianfranco Ferre’s one-of-a-kind couture gowns from his first collection for the French fashion house. I. Magnin recently opened a Dior boutique in the store.

Barre-ing Calories

There was a surprising bit of calorie consumption at Tanya

Lichine’s 9 a.m. ballet class the other day at her Beverly Hills dance school. After the barre exercises, the 9 o’clockers tossed a belated birthday party for Alexander Godunov--the lone male in the group of mothers, homemakers and the occasional professional ballet star. Although his 40th birthday was Nov. 28, his classmates surprised Godunov with a serenade of “Happy Birthday” and a double chocolate brownie cake.

Stamps of Approval

Bruce Springsteen and lady friend/ex-E Street Band tambourinist Patty Scialfa caught a screening of the new Tom Cruise tear-jerker, “Born on the Fourth of July,” at Universal. The Boss was dressed in his trademark uniform--basic black denim and cowboy boots. But this time the boots were equipped with those nifty chains some dudes attach to them these days. Listen learned that both he and Scialfa enjoyed the film and hung in there till the last credit rolled.
