Study Group Backs New Light Rail Line
An organization of local government officials and businesses recommended Friday that a light rail line be built linking Los Angeles’ Mid-Wilshire area to Southwest Los Angeles.
Construction of the rail line would ease traffic congestion along the Crenshaw Boulevard corridor and provide a mass transit alternative to an area that is expected to see thousands of new jobs in the coming years, the Southern California Assn. of Governments said in its study. The cost of building the line and its exact route were not addressed by the group.
The study researched the current and future transportation needs of the 39-square-mile area, bounded by the Santa Monica Freeway to the north, the Harbor Freeway to the east, Imperial Highway to the south and the San Diego Freeway to the west.
