Dorothy Dostal Dies; Founded School for Hearing Impaired

Dorothy Dostal, wife of former Newport Beach Mayor Milan Dostal, died at Hoag Hospital on Thursday after a 10-month bout with cancer.

She was born Dorothy Agnes Olson on May 4, 1929, and married Dostal in 1951 in Hutchinson, Minn. She was active for several years in the National Charity League and with the local Philharmonic Assn.

She was ordained an elder of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church of Newport Beach and was active on the music and the adult education committees. However, she was best known for founding Oralingua School for the Hearing Impaired in Whittier.

She is survived by her husband and three children: Richard George, 32; Cynthia Marie, 29, and Pamela Ann, 24.

A public viewing will be held at Pacific View Mortuary, 3500 Pacific View Drive, on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The funeral will be at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 600 St. Andrews Road, Newport Beach, on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
