Understanding That Children Need Adults

Share

Thank you very much for your articles “Therapists Begin Taking a Dim View of Divorce” (Nov. 28) and “New Minority Mom” (Dec. 3).

Those of us who work in PTA and lend a friendly ear to moms and dads going through divorce have been waiting for someone with credentials in psychology to finally see what we have been seeing all along. People can run away from problems or they can meet them head on and sort them out. Divorce is an attempt at running away. When children are involved, one can run but never get away.

“New Minority Mom” could have been titled “New Minority Family.” Thank you for some positive stroking to a model that shows concern for the way children grow up. Those of us at home and in PTA wonder why the world out there doesn’t understand that children need adults.
