Willis Carson, Ex-Real Estate Panel Chief, Dies
Willis E. Carson, 77, former president of the National Assn. of Real Estate Brokers and president of Carson Realty Co. in Inglewood, died Thursday in a convalescent home in Culver City. He had suffered a stroke earlier this month.
Carson moved to the Los Angeles area from Texas during World War II and opened a realty office in Los Angeles. In 1949, he founded the Consolidated Realty Board, primarily for black realtors who then were excluded from other boards.
In 1971, he became president of the National Assn. of Real Estate Brokers and the next year was among 12 people appointed to the advisory committee of the Federal National Mortgage Assn.
He is survived by his wife, Doris, a son, a daughter and six grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:30 at Angelus Funeral Home in Southwest Los Angeles.
