Assault Rifles

Our readers wrote letters throughout 1989 expressing their viewpoints on a variety of issues. Here are condensed versions of some of those letters. We appreciate their taking the time to share their viewpoints and look forward to hearing from more of them in 1990.

Randy Garell’s decision to discontinue the sale of assault weapons is obviously not going to get him the presidency of the National Rifle Assn., but it did earn tremendous respect from me.

The majority of his business associates and the NRA will remember his stand on these weapons long after those of us who applaud his decision will.

There is no doubt in my mind that some innocent person will die of old age, instead of being shot by some deranged person, because Garell discontinued selling those weapons. On behalf of that future senior citizen and myself, I thank him.
