Daniel O’Meara of the U.S. Nordic Combined Ski Team made two 84-meter jumps to win the annual New Year’s 70-Meter Ski Jump at Lake Placid, N.Y.
O’Meara, of Steamboat Springs, Colo., finished with 212.7 points, edging teammate Joe Holland of Norwich, Vt., who collected 211.9 points on jumps of 84 and 85 meters.
Kirk Allen, a Canadian Ski Team member from Banff, Alberta, was third with 211.4 points on jumps of 84 and 85 meters. Kaarlo Rautio of Thunder Bay, Ont., (207.7) and Todd Wilson of Tabernash, Colo., (195.5) placed fourth and fifth, respectively.
