NAMES IN THE NEWS : Freeman Relies on Instincts

Actor Morgan Freeman says despite his formal theatrical education, he relies on his instincts in front of the camera.

He took acting classes at the start of his career and recently read writings by acting teacher Constantin Stanislavsky, “but that business of peeling away layers of skin was too murky and deep for me,” Freeman said in an interview published in the Jan. 8 edition of Time magazine.

“I haven’t found that I’ve had to do that in any intellectual sense. What I do, I do intuitively. It just comes easy for me,” he said. Freeman is on screen in two major roles, the gravedigger who becomes a sergeant major in “Glory” and the chauffeur in “Driving Miss Daisy.”
