Alpha Microsystems: The Santa Ana-based computer company said the continuing slump in the domestic computer industry contributed to a 93% decline in profit for the third fiscal quarter. Net income for the quarter ended Nov. 26 dropped to $60,000 from $814,000 for the comparable period a year ago. Sales rose 4%, to $13.6 million from $13.1 million.

For the nine-month period, net income declined 64%, to $752,000, from $2.1 million for the first three quarters last year.

Sales increased 7%, to $40.8 million from $38 million.

Robert B. Hitchcock, chairman and chief executive, said that although third-quarter sales increased from the second quarter of the fiscal year, “Alpha Microsystems’ third-quarter sales and earnings were not up to expectations.”
