MISSION VIEJO : Blast Damages Auto; Week’s 3rd Bombing

Share

An explosion Wednesday inside a parked car in Mission Viejo was the third blast to rock the normally tranquil community since Monday, sheriff’s investigators said.

Officials said they are baffled by the bombing of a 1987 Hyundai sedan about 1 a.m. in the 26000 block of La Sierra Drive. The explosion damaged the vehicle’s interior and blew out its windows, sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Dick Olson said.

The car’s owner, Robert Lawrence Pratt, 20, was not in the vehicle and there were no injuries in the blast, Olson said.

Shortly after midnight on New Year’s Day, an explosion was reported at Castille Elementary School on Via La Coruna that shattered windows in a schoolroom.

A few hours later, a blast toppled a street lamp on Via Santa Clara east of Trabuco Circle. No one was injured in either of the incidents, which are under investigation by the sheriff’s bomb squad.
