SANTA ANA : City Employees Vote to Allow Union Dues

Share

City workers have agreed to allow their union, the Santa Ana City Employee Assn., to collect dues.

Of 576 votes cast, 340 were in favor of an agency shop, in which dues are collected for union representation, said Marco Palma, a union representative. Employees in non-management jobs must pay dues averaging $14 per month, but are not required to be union members.

The union had been campaigning for an agency shop for two months.

Two years ago, employees rejected union dues by just 11 votes.

The union’s next round of negotiations with the city, in March, will concern medical coverage.
