The Orthopaedic Hospital’s League for Crippled Children held its Jack O’Lantern Ball Oct. 20 at the Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel and netted $80,500. Proceeds will be used for care for children at the hospital. Ruth Wagner is president of the league and India Rance chaired the event.

The Westchester Mental Health Guild’s ninth annual Holiday Home Tour was held Nov. 5 and raised $20,000 to help subsidize therapy sessions at the Airport Marina Counseling Service, a nonprofit private mental health clinic in Westchester. Doris Uncapher was chairwoman.

The Airport Marina Counseling Service held its fifth annual Jet to Jetty 10K/5K Race and 5K Family Fitness Walk on Nov. 11 at Dockweiler Beach in Playa del Rey. The event netted $21,000 for operating expenses at the nonprofit mental health clinic. Board members Leon and Judy Angel were co-chairmen.

The Friends of the Jeffrey Foundation held an international holiday gala dinner party and membership celebration Dec. 6 at the El Rey International Restaurant. Net proceeds of $14,000 will be used toward the purchase of a new multipurpose center for handicapped children at 5464 W. Washington Blvd. Alyce Morris and Elaine Shelby were co-chairwomen.

The Hyatt Regency Los Angeles held its fifth annual “World’s Largest Office Party” Dec. 13. The event was attended by 2,300 celebrities, attorneys, corporate executives and friends of the Dream Street Foundation, and raised more than $12,000. Dream Street sponsors summer camp programs for children with cancer, AIDS and other life-threatening illnesses.

The Motion Picture and Television Fund’s executive director, William Haug, received a $65,000 check presented by Phyllis Quinn, first vice president of the Screen Smart Set, at the group’s auxiliary luncheon, raising the total amount donated in 1989 to $155,000. Margaret Ferraro, wife of City Council President John Ferraro, was installed as 1990 president at the Dec. 14 event.

United Way North Angeles Region Executive Committee Chair Kenneth Murphy received an $865,000 check on Dec. 15 from Lockheed employee “Bucks of the Month Club” board member Leo Hill and Bryan Carver, president, International Assn. of Machinist Lodge 727. BOMC is the Lockheed employees’ giving club that allocates money to various agencies and the United Way.
