MCI, Mexican Firm Sign Pact: MCI Communications Corp. and Telefonos de Mexico SA announced that they have signed an agreement to provide direct voice and other telecommunications services between the United States and Mexico. The accord marks the first time that Telefonos de Mexico has connected its Mexican network with more than one U.S. carrier for the provision of voice services, MCI said in a statement. American Telephone & Telegraph Co., MCI’s biggest competitor, has been the only U.S. company in that position for several years. MCI and Telefonos de Mexico expect to begin providing voice service early next week.
