WORLD : Slavs Protest Rights for Turks

Thousands of Bulgaria’s majority Slavs walked off their jobs today in at least five cities to protest a new policy restoring Muslim names and religious rights to the country’s ethnic Turks.

Bulgarian radio said the protests paralyzed the southern city of Kardzhali and caused disruptions in the other cities, Bulgarian radio reported.

The radio said that thousands of workers from all enterprises went on strike in Kardzhali and that public transportation was halted.
