Question: Don’t all cruise lines accept credit cards for fares and all expenses incurred aboard?
Answer: Most but not every cruise ship accepts major credit cards for passage and on-board shops, shore excursions, bars and currency. But a few still demand cash. Check with the line or your travel agent.
Q: We would like to stay at a New Zealand farm on an upcoming trip. Do they take guests and, if so, what’s the cost?
A: Farm-stay holidays are growing in popularity, and the New Zealand Central Reservations Office--toll-free (800) 351-2323--lists more than 100. Stays are usually two nights and cost $70 a day per person for room plus three meals.
Q: Do the airlines fly you at a discount fare if you have a death in the family or a serious medical emergency?
A: Some airlines offer so-called bereavement fares, which may be as much as 50% off. Usually a doctor’s or mortician’s certificate is required for proof. Requests can be made through agents or airlines directly. The nonprofit Air Life Line--1116 24th St., Sacramento 95816, (916) 446-0995--will fly indigent patients as far as 500 miles to a medical facility, using private aircraft.
Q: Do youth hostels still accept senior citizen travelers on their tours?

Q: Is it possible to visit all of the wineries in the French Bordeaux region?
A: Some top vineyards such as Chateau Mouton Rothschild are selective about invitations and require appointments. Others are open to all comers. Local hoteliers can be helpful in arranging visits.
