Titan Women Lose to Nevada Las Vegas

Nevada Las Vegas defeated Cal State Fullerton, 92-70, Sunday in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game at Titan Gym.

“It was a weird outcome,” UNLV Coach Jim Bolla said. “The game seemed like it was real close.”

The Titans (6-6 overall and 1-2 in the conference) trailed, 45-39, at the half and cut the lead to 61-57 with seven minutes remaining. But the Rebels (11-1, 3-0) outscored Fullerton, 31-13. Trailing 80-70 with three minutes left, Fullerton didn’t score again.

“We were up and down tonight,” Fullerton Coach Maryalyce Jeremiah said. “We played well for 37 minutes and played hard for the last three against a top-10 team that played a better floor game.”

It was the eighth consecutive victory for UNLV, in first place in the Big West Conference and ranked eighth in the country. The Rebels were led by Pauline Jordan, who had 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Fullerton junior center Genia Miller had 27 points, including 18 in the first half, and 12 rebounds. Senior guard Jill Matyuch , who played at El Dorado High School, had 20 points.
